The new app Flashbang! allows you to share photos but prevents your friends from saving them, taking screenshots, and your photos automatically disappear after 10 seconds. It is like Snapchat, but actually prevents people from keeping copies of your messages!
Flashbang! uses a patent pending technology visual encryption which leverages persistence of vision to allow you to see something different than what you are shown. Several scrambled photos are shown very quickly in sequence and the viewer sees the original un-scrambled image. If the viewer takes a screenshot, they will only capture on of the scrambled images not the original photo.
Snap chat originally became popular because people would share photos that they thought would be permanently deleted after a short period of time. Unfortunately, snap chat could be easily circumvented by using built in screenshot capabilities. Even now there are ongoing cases were people are using snap chat to send pictures that they don’t want others to see, but ultimately find those photos posted to the internet. There is a definite demand for truly ephemeral messages, but previous technology is insufficient to solve the problem.
